About FAFF
Hi, I’m Summer. I’m a thirty year-old law grad from Melbourne who loves beautiful things. Gorgeous colours, soft, comforting fabrics, unexpected details.
Apparently I started dressing myself at two. I didn’t sleep through the night until six. I wanted to be a fashion designer until I realised I couldn’t draw, which in the technological stone age seemed relevant.
I became a convert to shopping resale while living in New York. The city is a smorgasbord of vintage and once loved rare and luxury treasures sold in all different sorts of stores at all different kinds of prices. Once I realised the comparative quality of fabrication and design that I was able to get buying preloved, spending money on the sorts of things I was able to afford new just stopped making much sense.
When I returned to Melbourne from New York after living in the US for 7 years, I found myself frustrated in a retail environment where high quality and luxury clothing seemed out of reach. I found myself swallowing $100+ shipping fees and import duties to select from the much more extensive selection of both emerging and heritage designers available overseas, with price points so much more accessible even factoring in these additional costs. I even ordered my dress for my upcoming wedding online from a US based consignment store and just crossed my fingers because I couldn’t find what I wanted locally within my price range.
It didn’t make sense that tracking down the sorts of pieces I became accustomed to having access to in New York should be such a faff in Melbourne, an artistic mecca of sustainably and ethically minded folks. Why was I finding myself buying lower quality items for more money, or looking longingly through the window of sparsely populated, monochrome shop fronts where the only item below $700 was the white cotton tee at $399?
So I decided I should go ahead and have a go at creating my favourite kind of place to shop. A luxury resale store with some oomph and some character, stocking beautiful, long lasting, high quality pieces at Country Road prices. I’ll happily faff around finding the good stuff so you don’t have to.
I hope you enjoy my little collection of beautiful things.
xx
Our Approach
Where do you source pieces for FAFF? What does FAFF stock?
FAFF stocks preloved (and some brand new) luxury clothing and accessories that showcase thoughtful design and high quality fabrication from Sezane to Chanel. Some of our items are one-off samples and one-of-a-kind design prototypes. These are some of my favourite pieces as the customer is getting something truly unique. I source our stock from consignment and second hand stores, vintage sellers, sample sales, archive sales and discounted high-end retailers around the world. I only buy authenticated designer items from trusted retailers and do not source directly from individuals or open marketplaces as FAFF is not yet in a position to authenticate items in-house.
FAFF’s procurement strategy is premised on the view that your wardrobe should include a balance of staples and treasures. Staples are your key everyday items and classic occasion wear that you will reach for again and again. These are items that should last you for years or even decades rather than being turned over every season. Fabrication of these items is so important for them to last the distance, and design for them to remain attractive and stylish as trends come and go. Treasures are often the focal point of an everyday outfit or a striking piece for a particular event. Pieces with colours, textures, details or shapes that surprise you, that make you smile when you put them on and put a spring in your step as you walk out the door. Perhaps one will become your signature, or maybe it will give you the night of your life before you pass it on to the next lucky wearer.
Wardrobes are not storage units, they are pantries. Don’t leave the Haigh’s on the shelf. Chocolate is meant to be eaten, beautiful clothes are meant to be worn.
Is all your stock available online? When do you add new pieces?
No, not everything we have is online. FAFF items become available in seasonal drops (2 drops/season). Currently only our Late Winter Collection is available for purchase online. Our next drop will be Early Spring in September. FAFF will also be dropping a bridal collection before the end of 2025 and opening its clothing rental service.
